OnePlus has, for some time now, gone with a six-month cycle for new smartphone launches. The system has been followed fairly accurately since the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T, with ‘T’ variants coming for the OnePlus 5 series and OnePlus 6 series as well. The OnePlus 7 series is also expected to get a ‘T’ upgrade in the coming weeks. If you’re looking to buy a new smartphone soon and are keen to go with OnePlus, here’s everything we know so far about the upcoming OnePlus 7T Pro and OnePlus 7T.
Earlier this year, OnePlus adopted a different approach to its past launches; the company launched two devices – the OnePlus 7 Pro and OnePlus 7 – in May, at different price points. The company could go with a similar strategy with its second major smartphone launch of the year – launching ‘T’ variants of both devices. We’ve put together all of the information we have so far on the devices – read on to find out.
OnePlus usually doesn’t mess with the design too much for the “T” version of its smartphone. For the OnePlus 6T, it introduced a waterdrop notch over the larger notch on the OnePlus 6, but typically, it’s the internal hardware that gets an upgrade.
Many of the leaks surrounding the OnePlus 7T Pro show the purported device in a case so it’s difficult to glean much information from them. Based on what we can see, it looks like the OnePlus 7T Pro will offer a very similar design to the OnePlus 7 Pro with a full, uninterrupted display and a triple camera on the rear.
We haven’t seen many leaks surrounding the standard OnePlus 7T as yet, though there have been rumors of a OnePlus device with a circular camera system on the rear – it is not currently clear which model that might be.
Hardware is where the OnePlus 7T Pro is likely to differ from its predecessor. The OnePlus 7 offers the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset under its hood, which leads us to believe the 7T and 7T Pro will feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Plus platform. It’s also been claimed the Pro model might offer 5G capabilities like the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G, especially after Pete Lau, OnePlus CEO said the company would release a new 5G handset in Q4 of 2019.
RAM options on the current Pro device are 6GB, 8GB and 12GB, which we wouldn’t be surprised to see remain the same, while storage options are 128GB and 256GB for the OnePlus 7 Pro. With competitors like Samsung offering more, perhaps a 512GB model will appear for the OnePlus 7T Pro?
A 4000mAh battery is on board the OnePlus 7 Pro with Warp Charge 30 Fast Charging. Rumors suggest we will see a 4080mAh battery on the OnePlus 7T Pro, which is pretty much the same.
In terms of the OnePlus 7T, 6GB and 8GB of RAM have been suggested, along with 128GB and 256GB of storage. It’s battery is said to increase to 3800mAh, which is a small jump from the OnePlus 7.
The OnePlus 7 Pro comes with a 6.67-inch Quad HD+ display, which we expect the OnePlus 7T Pro will also adopt. There’s a 19.5:9 aspect ratio, an AMOLED panel, 3D Corning Gorilla Glass and a 90Hz refresh rate, all of which we expect on the OnePlus 7T Pro.
An under-display fingerprint sensor is also expected to appear on the 7T Pro, like the 7 Pro.
In terms of the OnePlus 7T, rumors suggest it will have a 6.55-inch display – which is an increase on the 7 that has a 6.41-inch screen. The resolution is also said to jump to Quad HD over Full HD and it is said to be adopting the 90Hz refresh rate of the 7 Pro.
The OnePlus 7 Pro has a triple rear camera comprised of a 48-megapixel main camera, a 16-megapixel ultra-wide camera and an 8-megapixel telephoto camera. There’s also a 16-megapixel pop up front camera.
We’re expecting the same setup for the OnePlus 7T Pro but it wouldn’t be too surprising to see some improvements, even if just software, allowing for the potential of better results in the “T” model.
It’s rumored the OnePlus 7T will have a triple rear camera, which would be a step up from the dual camera offered on the OnePlus 7. Rumors suggest the 48-megapixel main sensor will be coupled with a 16-megapixel and 12-megapixel sensor.
OnePlus traditionally announces the “T” version of its smartphone sometime in November, while the first device is usually announced around May or June. The OnePlus 6 was revealed on 22 May, followed by the 6T on 6 November, while the OnePlus 5 was announced on 11 June, followed by the 5T on 21 November.
There was some talk of 15 October 2019 as the launch date for the OnePlus 7T and OnePlus 7T Pro but this rumor was dispelled soon after. Since then, it’s claimed 15 October is the on sale date, 10 October is the launch date for the OnePlus 7T and OnePlus 7T Pro in Europe and 26 September is the launch date for the devices in India.
Also expected to launch on September 26 is the OnePlus TV; the event could be a big one with both the smartphones and TVs finally being unveiled on the day.
For now though, nothing is officially confirmed.
The phones could carry the same price as the OnePlus 7 Pro and OnePlus 7, that is, Rs. 48,999 onwards and Rs. 32,999 onwards, respectively. RAM and storage options could remain the same as well, with both devices starting with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage as base variants.
There could also be a McLaren-themed special edition coming later in the year, similar to the OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition that was launched last year.
