After an enormous fanfare and a build-up of two years, the 9th edition of the 21 Gun Salute International Vintage Car Rally & Concours d’Elegance 2020 was flagged off by Shri. KTS Tulsi – President HMCI, Mr. Madan Mohan Chairman & Trustee of the 21 Gun Salute Heritage & Cultural Trust and many other esteemed national & international dignitaries. Living up to the expectation, joy and promise that this opulent event has built so far, the first day of the event saw a sea of spectators huddled together to catch a glimpse of hundreds of Vintage cars from around the world at India Gate and as the cars paraded through the historic roads of Lutyens’ Delhi.
Caravan of 150+ International & National Vintage Cars along with 35 Vintage Bikes Starting from INDIA GATE, the rally followed the route followed Inner Circle Road, the rally proceeded from Raj Path and continued to move on Baba Kharak Singh Marg following Mother Teresa Crescent Road, then on Sardar Patel Marg, Dhaula Kuan Fly Over, further the rally moved on NH-8, following AirPort Fly Over, MahipalPur Fly Over, Rajokari Fly Over, Shankar Chowk Fly Over and further moved on the Hero Honda Chowk Fly Over. It Continued Straight for Toll Plaza and then reached the destination KARMA LAKELANDS GOLF COURSE, GURUGRAM.
Organized in association with Government of India, Ministry of Tourism, the 21 Gun Salute International Vintage Car Rally & Concours d’Elegance marked its beginning by keeping up with the tradition of an ostentatious flag off at the majestic India Gate and the beautiful ceremonial panorama echoed through the surroundings of the India Gate and were fuelled with the enthusiasm of the audiences. 150+ gorgeous vintage cars stood in attendance in front of the immortal flame of the Amar Jawan Jyoti that honors the sacrifices of the brave martyrs’ and made for a stunning vista along with 34 esteemed International Judges from around the world.
The event witnessed a parade of the rarest, stunning & never seen before motoring masterpieces from all over the world, 1938 Rolls-Royce 25/30, Maserati 3500GT Vignale Syder, 1939 Buick Roadmaster Convertible, 1938 Lancia Astura Series IV, 1930 BMW 3/15 DA2 “Kabriolet”, 1936 Rolls Royce 25/30 Gurney Nutting Coupe, 1959 Jaguar XK 150 S, 1936 Rolls Royce 25/30, 1951 Bentley MK VI Freestone & Webb, 1966 Ford Mustang, 1930 Cadillac V-16 Roadster, 1959 Alfa 2000 to name a few! “I have had the opportunity to observe some fascinating vintage cars. These have been exquisitely restored & preserved and the heritage of vintage and classic cars are being kept alive because of the commitment of the owners and those who work behind the scenes in maintaining these beauties,” said Shri. KTS Tulsi – President HMCI at India Gate, New Delhi.
Mr. Madan Mohan, Chairman & Trustee of the 21 Gun Salute Heritage & Cultural Trust addressed the guests and the audience from the India Gate and emphasized inculcating the value and importance of the Heritage Motoring and its evolution to the younger generation. He also sent out a heartfelt appreciation to all those who have supported this endeavor and have been monumental in realizing this dream.
International beauties like the 1930 Cadillac V-16 Roadster from USA, 1939 Buick Roadmaster Convertible Sedan, Model 81C from USA, 1936 Rolls Royce 25/30 from Canada, 1951 Bentley MK VI Freestone& Webb from Germany, 1959 Jaguar XK 150S from Belgium, 1959 Alfa 2000 from Belgium, 1966 Ford Mustang & Maserati 3500 GT SpyderVignale from Belgium were the center of attraction at the show field.
The Concours welcomed a diverse selection of cars on the show field from various parts of India that included The 1938 Bentley HH Maharaja of Darbhanga, 1938 Bentley HH Maharaja of Bhopal, 1966 Jaguar E-Type, 1959 Chevrolet Impala, 1946 MG TC, 1936 Mercedes-Benz Type 290 of Yuvraj Dhananjai Singh of Khimsar, 1947 Packard Clipper of Thakore Saheb MandhataSinhji Jadeja of Rajkot, 1947 Packard Deluxe Clipper of Yuvraj Shri Harshvardhan Singh of Dungarpur and many other points of attractions that included Gautam Hari Singhania’s 1909 Renault AX, 1903 Cadillac Model A, 1939 Rolls-Royce Wraith, 1937 Pierce-Arrow Eight, 1951 Jaguar XK 120 and 1932 MG J2.
1934 Lagonda M45 Rapide, 1935 Bentley By Antem Drophead, 1921 Fiat Corsa, 1923 Lanchester 40 HP Tourer, 1930 Stutz, Series M, of the Pebble Beach Category shone like gems on the Concours show field.
The inaugural edition of the event was held in 2011 and since then, the event has taken India forward on the world heritage motoring tourism map. This year, every piece on display will be both rare and unique, and each car participating in the Concours will be displayed on the 21 Gun Salute Concours show field, for the first time.
The artistic quality and authenticity of the event will afford a chance to the restored beauties to earn accolades and turn heads. Besides, showcasing the rich automotive heritage to the world, the rally will also take up a social cause of raising funds for children with special needs. The two-day event will incorporate colorful cultural fest, representing India’s pride, glory, and cultural elegance.
The 9th edition of the 21 Gun Salute International Vintage Car Rally & Concours d’Elegance will also mark the beginning of a new era in the Indian Heritage Motoring fraternity, with the premiere of the first Incredible India Rally that follows the last day of the two-day extravaganza. The Incredible India Rally that begins on February 17th, 2020 with a procession of 10 roaring vintage beauties driven by the proud Car Connoisseurs from all over the world will be a spectacle like no other. The Incredible India Rally is an initiative with the support of the Government of India, Ministry of Tourism that aims to promote heritage motoring throughout India as well as intends to put India on the top of the global heritage motoring map.
The 21 Gun Salute Concours d’Elegance is one of the grandest & classiest events on the Asian motoring events calendar and the magnificent flag off at the India Gate continues the unmatched tradition of celebration of automotive excellence & Indian heritage!
